Structure Description

The condominium complex consists of six 17-story towers, a smaller tower and a 3-story parking garage nestled against the west side of Albany Hill in Albany.  The towers consist of high-strength (6000 psi) concrete masonry unit (CMU) shear wall construction.

Significance to Structural Engineering History in Northern California

The structures are the tallest CMU buildings on the west coast of the United States.

Interesting Facts
  • The bright colors again the Albany Hill make it the most notable structures driving on Interstate 80 as well as from Marin and San Francisco Counties.
  • Today, the legal limit of CMU construction is twelve stories, a limit that did not exist when Gateview was constructed.
