Significance to Structural Engineering History in Northern California

The Engineers Alliance for the Arts (EAA) was founded in 2000 by Ashraf Habibullah of Computer and Structures, Inc. to teach high school students in the San Francisco Bay Area about the structural engineering profession. Through a ten-week Student Impact Program each year, students participate in a multi-disciplinary curriculum that includes engineering concepts, creativity, teamwork and communication. The curriculum is structured around a goal of designing and building a bridge model judged by actual structural engineers, architects and artists. It is the only in-class educational program in the United States dedicated to teaching students about the engineering profession. Now approaching nearly two decades, EAA has grown and expanded to include regional programs in Oklahoma, Texas, Georgia and Hawaii. The Structural Engineers Association of Northern California (SEAONC) has been a sponsor of EAA since its inception, providing financial support and many SEAONC members have volunteered as instructors for the program over the years.
